FROM

COUNCILLOR HABIB REHMAN

"WE CAN ALL HELP TO KEEP

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD TIDY"

Councillor Habib Rehman has been receiving an increasing number of complaints about fly tipping, dog fouling and other environmental waste problems.  The purpose of this message, which we are delivering to all the houses within the University Ward area, is to set out the simple steps we can all take to help keep our neighbourhoods clean and tidy.

YOUR HOUSEHOLD RUBBISH

·                   YOUR HOUSEHOLD RUBBISH IS COLLECTED ON A DESIGNATED DAY EACH WEEK, AND, EXCEPT WHERE THERE ARE COMMUNAL BINS, YOUR RUBBISH SHOULD NOT BE PUT OUT FOR COLLECTION AT ANY OTHER TIME.  YOU CAN GET ADVICE ON YOUR RUBBISH COLLECTION DAY BY CALLING US ON 726001.

·                   YOU CAN GET INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR CORRECT WASTE COLLECTION DAY BY CALLING THE COUNCIL ON 726001 (OR 726050 OUTSIDE BUSINESS HOURS)

·                    ENSURE YOUR WASTE IS CORRECTLY BAGGED AND TIED.

·                    IF YOU HAVE A WHEELIE BIN PLEASE ENSURE YOU PUT ALL YOUR WASTE INSIDE

GETTING RID OF BULKY WASTE

·                    MIDDLESBROUGH COUNCIL WILL COLLECT BULKY WASTE SUCH AS FURNITURE & RUBBLE FREE OF CHARGE, PLEASE RING 726001 FOR MORE INFORMATION ABOUT "JUNK JOBS".

It is against the law to give away your waste to someone else to take away without checking if they are legally able to transport it - a "registered waste carrier".  Illegal waste carriers often fly-tip their waste rather than pay the proper disposal costs, and you could end up paying the price.  You can check who is registered and who is not by calling the Environment Agency on 08708-506506 and asking for details of "registered waste carriers".

Always remember - a legitimate registered waste carrier will be able to show you proof  and will be glad to do so.

DOG FOULING

Please pick up after your dog has fouled.  Dog waste is unsightly and can spread disease.  You can dispose of bagged dog dirt with your normal household waste, or you can use the special dog waste bins provided by Middlesbrough Council if there is one to hand.

You can get poop scoop bags from the Council by calling our Contact Centre on 726001 or 726050 outside normal business hours.

It is against the law to let your dog foul and not clean up immediately afterwards.  The maximum penalty for committing this offence, on summary conviction by a court, is a fine of £1000.  Alternatively, Enforcement Officers may issue a fixed penalty of £50.

It is also an offence to “sweep out” faeces from a yard.  You should dispose of it in with your normal household waste, correctly bagged and put out for collection as stipulated overleaf.

Please help your Council to keep your neighbourhood clean and tidy by following these simple steps.  Together we can all make a real difference.
