Habib Rehman Working Hard For Residents Of University Ward

University Campus Security forum Meeting

May 2010

University Ward Councillor Habib Rehman attended an important Campus Security Forum meeting held at Teesside University. This was a major gathering of senior representatives from local agencies, who are either directly or indirectly associated with the University.

Organisations such as Cleveland Police, Middlesbrough Council, Housing Associations met with heads of various departments from the University to discuss and assess the security and safety of students, staff and the local community.

Due to the sheer size and location of an expanding university, it is necessary to review the security in the context of the wider town. A presentation was made regarding the crime on campus and in surrounding area. A statistical breakdown was provided of the types of crime experienced and how the university collaborated with outside agencies in resolving the issues.

It was also noted that the university has enormous resources and tools at its disposal, such as cctv cameras which the council and the police wished to make use of in dealing with incidents in and around the roads covered by university in order to improve the security in and around those university buildings which overlap and border onto residential areas.
