Residents Unhappy About Quality and Condition of Our Streets and Back Alleys
Councillor Rehman inundated with complaints from angry residents, demanding action to clean up the
The most obvious and visible issue raised by majority of residents apart from parking problem, pot holes in the roads and face-lifting improvement works, is the level and scale of litter, rubbish, junk & dog dirt on our streets and back alleys.
Some streets have more litter than others but overall majority of the residents feel extremely unhappy & dissatisfied about the state and condition of our streets and the back alleys and the health & safety issues.
Some residents are plagued by rats “some as big as cats” according to some eye-witness reports, and other forms of nasty varmints posing a threat and a health hazard. In order to address this issue your University Ward Councillors organised a Ward inspection with Heads of Streetscene on 4 October 2007. During the tour of the ward it became quickly apparent at just how serious this problem is and the level of work involved.
We are pleased to report that a number of measures, and a plan of action in order to improve the situation, have been agreed e.g. communal wheeled bins will be provided in the back alleys to prevent rubbish from scattering onto the streets and regular rigorous clean sweep will follow, with a real brush!
We are currently monitoring the situation, and will keep you informed & updated regarding the progress and of any new developments. If you have bulky items of waste please use the free junk job service, and report any fly-tipping you may see on 726001 or 01642 726050 (if outside office hours).
