Habib Rehman Working Hard For Residents Of University Ward

Interim Observations and Views on University Residents Parking Scheme

Here are Councillor Habib Rehman's interim observations, views and comments as recieved from some local residents living within the new University Residents Parking Scheme Zone;

  1. Poor Quality ineffective patrolling of University Residents Parking Zone.

  1. Abuse of Scratch Cards by some students and residents causing concern.

  1. Some residents now requesting that certain side streets should be completely resident only parking with no waiting restrictions in order to further alleviate congestion and reduce unnecessary vehicles within residential areas.

  1. Problems with congestion on Albert Terrace. Residents requesting removal of 45 minute waiting restriction and implementing a Residents Only in order to reduce congestion and solve this problem.

  1. Some residents still complaining of problems with Pay and Parking Meters and wrongly obstructed from parking opposite their homes at peak times contrary to the agreement made at Stakeholder Meetings.

  1. New problems reported by Park Lane Garage of motorists parking around the premises Falmouth St/Park Lane/Croydon Rd and causing obstruction to delivery vehicles and impacting customers.

  1. Continuing problems of some residents who are safely parking over built out areas of old flower beds and double yellows being ticketed and inconvenienced (whilst residents are allowed to park outside their homes in exactly similar circumstances in Middlehaven)

  1. Predicted displacement from University and town centre workers affecting Angle St, Byland St, Lothian Rd and Wellesley Rd areas.

  1. The residents parking scheme now needs to cover the entire ward and incorporate reasonable flexibility to resolve Football Match Day parking problems. Some side streets should be converted now to “Residents Only Parking” as none of the businesses or organisations will be affected due to nature of this scheme. The University, local businesses and the mosques have all had an opportunity to test out this scheme and their needs have been taken into consideration. However, it is now a good opportunity to see how this scheme could be further fine tuned and improved to deliver maximum benefits for the entire ward for the long term.
