More than 20 questions on facts like these - some quirky, some truly remarkable -are posed in the Middlesbrough Quiz, a brilliantly- animated new on-line brain teaser hosted by none other than the Mayor of Middlesbrough, Ray Mallon.

Originally conceived as a fun way of introducing the new intake of students at the University of Teesside to the town where they will study for the next three or more years, the Middlesbrough Quiz has been developed into a challenge that will test even the knowledge of the natives of Middlesbrough. Animated by Jeremiah Alexander, a former University of Teesside student, and featuring a cartoon version of the Mayor to act as guide and mentor, it provides an enormously entertaining and informative tour of some of the features that make Middlesbrough unique.

The Middlesbrough Quiz went live at www. lovemiddlesbrough.com on 25 September, during the University's Welcome Week for its new students. However, anyone is welcome to go online and let Ray Mallon guide them through the multiple-option questions that test their knowledge of the town. They can record their scores on the lovemiddlesbrough website if they want to boast and try for one of a number of prizes available to the most successful contestants.

The Middlesbrough Quiz was compiled - with help from a range of sources - by Claire Wordsworth of Middlesbrough Council who is co-ordinating the lovemiddlesbrough campaign. She said:-

"Some of the facts that emerged when we were researching the Quiz were eye-openers for us - and we believe we can guarantee that even people who think they know Middlesbrough inside out will be surprised at some of the answers."
