Free swimming lessons for the over sixties
Middlesbrough Council, via its Sports and Leisure services section, has taken up a government offer of funding to provide free swimming for all Middlesbrough people sixty years of age and over starting April 2009.
As part of this initiative, Middlesbrough Sports and Leisure services has also secured additional funding from Middlesbrough Patient Care Trust (PCT) to provide free swimming lessons for the same age group.
Councillor Brenda Thompson, Executive Member for Public Health and Sport said: “As well as continuing to deliver our service promise of ‘making more people more active’, we want to make swimming accessible to all sections of the community. Free swimming lessons for the over sixties is a great addition to our programme of activities and will be available at both the Neptune and Rainbow Leisure Centre beginning in January 2009.”
Anyone sixty years of age and over who wishes to attend these sessions should contact Lee Townsend at the Neptune on 01642 230106 or Steven Falconer at the Rainbow Leisure Centre on 01642 592800 for further details.
These lessons are provided subject to availability. As part of the provision of the lessons, participants will be asked for regular feedback in order to facilitate the future development of the free swimming and lesson programme.
