Middlesbrough's Citizen Code
A Citizens’ Code to improve the quality of life for local people has been launched by the elected Mayor Ray Mallon.
Aimed at highlighting the positive side of life in Middlesbrough as well as tackling anti-social issues that the public raise most often, the Code sets out standards that local people, businesses and public believe should be upheld. It also shows that we are proud of our town’s heritage and the benefi t it has brought to the world.
The Middlesbrough Citizens’ Code encourages residents to:
•
Talk the town up – both at home and further afield•
Help reduce crime and anti-social behaviour•
Look out for the elderly, infirm or vulnerable, check they are ok•
Help those in trouble or distress by intervening or calling for help when it is safe to do so, rather than simply walking by•
Support the voluntary sector and applaud acts of kindnessAnd to refrain from:
•
Foul and abusive language or behaviour•
Littering•
Irresponsible parking in disabled car parking bays, on pavements or grass verges•
Dangerous cycling on pavements•
Letting dogs off leads in prohibited areas and allowing them to foul in public areas•
Unfair criticism of the town•
