Winter Lights - featuring unsilent night
In a contemporary take on Christmas carolling, the streets of Middlesbrough will reverberate with the unpredictable and unique soundscape of Unsilent Night on Sunday 7th December from 4.00pm.
Unsilent Night is a unique audience participation work. Bring your old portable cassette and CD players - to play either a pre recorded CD or tape provided by the composer and at his command, we all press "play" and set off on a parade around the town.
The music is of beautiful bells and chimes that swirl and rise and echo off the buildings and the mass effect of dozens and dozens of cassette and CD players all going at once is absolutely stunning. The more people who participate the bigger and better the sound is.
Follow the magical procession of light and sound and candle-lanterns made by local children leading to an awe-inspiring finale. Watch as a huge illuminated solar system is created, animated by fire and light and suspended above Centre Square at 5.00pm.
This is a unique event to Middlesbrough. The composer Phil Kline, does a world tour with this event each December visiting New York, Cologne, Sydney and San Francisco amongst others world cities. It is a really thrilling event and really sets the scene for the Christmas festivities in Middlesbrough.
